About this lesson

When the pesky opponents get in the way, use their suit. A cue bid shows partner a fit and real values, and it takes a bid away from them at the same time. Lorna covers the auctions where it does that job, and one where it means the opposite of what you would expect.

What you'll pick up

  • What a cue bid promises: a fit, and a limit raise or better
  • The direct cue over their opening, whether or not you play Michaels
  • Why the cue carries the strong hand while the jump raise is weak
  • The advancer's cue, showing support for the overcall and the values to back it
  • The one auction where an opener's cue denies support instead of showing it
